We've recently welcomed our new Financial Controller Sam Turnock to the team, we sat down with him to get to know him a little more...

The Serious Stuff…

Tell us a bit about what you were doing before starting at CheckdMedia?

I have spent the past four and a half years working in the business services department of an accountancy firm in Manchester. My primary role was in the audit of privately-owned SMEs. Going out and working at different businesses from week to week.

What attracted you to CheckdMedia?

During my time in audit I’ve worked with all sorts of businesses. Some great, some not so great… I had a good grasp of the type of business and people I wanted to work with;

- Fast-growing and ambitious

- Dynamic and open-minded

- Creative and innovative

It was clear that CheckdMedia ticked all of these boxes and so I jumped at the opportunity to get involved.

What will your role be at CheckdMedia?

My role will be to take full ownership of the finance function of the business, leading the company’s financial accounting, reporting and management activities. Over time I’ll be looking at working with the business intelligence side of the business to identify & monitor KPIs that ensure the team are making data led decisions.

What’s your biggest achievement, academically or career wise, to date?

Before moving to CheckdMedia I completed my ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification, which has provided me with a strong foundation of financial knowledge and business analytical skills.
